Cooking Class

Let’s cook, connect, and celebrate Bengali cuisine together

Learn the basics of curry – Wedding-Style Feast – May 24

Shuraya’s Kitchen – where you learn the basics of curry!

Time: 4pm – 7pm

Join us for a flavorful evening at Shuraya’s Kitchen, where you’ll discover the magic of making curries from scratch. This in-person experience is perfect for both beginners and home cooks who love bold flavors and meaningful food experiences.

Tehari is one of the most beloved rice dishes in Bangladeshi cuisine. In this demo-style cooking class, you’ll learn how to make a traditional Beef Tehari from scratch, a deeply aromatic dish where tender beef and fragrant rice cook together with warming spices to create layers of incredible flavor. Shuraya will guide you step by step through the foundations of this dish, including how to balance spices like nutmeg, mace, and mustard oil, and why these ingredients give Tehari its distinctive character compared to other South Asian rice dishes. You’ll also learn about kalijeera rice, the small, fragrant rice traditionally used in Bangladesh that gives Tehari its beautiful texture and aroma.

Shuraya will pair this dish with other side dishes, creating an unforgettable memory that you won’t stop talking about!

Your host, a passionate home cook, will welcome you into her cozy Cranston home with warming tea and appetizers before diving into essential techniques, spice combinations, and the art of balancing flavors. The class is demo-style, but guests are encouraged to gather close, observe, ask questions, and soak in the aromas as the dishes come together.

The evening concludes with an elegant, communal dining experience where guests will enjoy 5–6 home-style dishes while learning about Bengali culture through Shuraya’s personal stories. At Shuraya’s Kitchen, the atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and judgment-free—a space to connect, learn, and truly enjoy the experience.

Bring your appetite and curiosity, and prepare for a memorable culinary journey.
