Shuraya's Passion for Bengali Cuisine

Meet Shuraya, a Canadian-Bengali culinary expert dedicated to sharing the flavors and techniques of traditional Bengali cooking. Inspired by her late father, who opened the first Bangladeshi supermarket in Toronto, Shuraya grew up surrounded by authentic Bengali ingredients that were not readily available elsewhere. Today, she combines her rich cultural heritage with a passion for cooking to teach others the beauty of Bengali cuisine.

At Shuraya’s Kitchen, we celebrate the rich and underappreciated flavors of traditional Bengali cuisine. My name is Shuraya, a Canadian-Bengali home chef passionate about introducing others to the art of cooking affordable, healthy, and delicious Bangladeshi dishes.

Cooking has always been a way for me to connect with my roots and share my culture. Inspired by my late father—who established Toronto’s first Bangladeshi supermarket—I developed a deep appreciation for the unique ingredients and techniques that make Bengali food so special.

My curry cooking classes focus on the basics of Bengali curries and simple vegetable dishes, offering a hands-on experience in a warm and welcoming environment. I keep my sessions small—just 4 to 8 guests—so you can enjoy a personal and interactive learning atmosphere. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned cook, you’ll leave with practical skills, cultural insights, and stories to share.

What You Can Expect

Each class is demonstration-based, allowing you to watch and absorb every step of the cooking process. Alongside the sights and aromas, I share tips on balancing spices, creating authentic flavors, and preparing nutritious meals with locally sourced ingredients.

Beyond cooking, you’ll enjoy a unique spice tour that introduces you to the essential Bengali spices and pantry staples needed to recreate these dishes at home. At the end of each class, guests sit together to enjoy the meal—a true celebration of community and food.
